I arrived at the camp house Friday evening, with an excitement level at an all time high. The only problem, was I wasn't sure which bow spot I would be hunting for the opening morning. My decision was made late that day that I was to hunt blind #11.
Opening morning....I corned the road from the tailgate feeder and slipped into the tripod. I was after "Wide 11" and I knew he was in the area somewhere. As time dragged on I could hear a lone deer walking down the road to my left. My excitement was growing because I had a feeling it was him. Day light soon increased to where I could make out the long brows. I couldn't believe I had finally laid eyes on my target buck.
The morning hunt ended with no arrow released. An hour and a half of waiting for the right shot...never presented itself. I was crushed to simply have to watch him walk off. I was emotional spent.
I was back into the tripod at 4:15pm. This time I was more specific where I corned the road. I only had two angles to get a shot off and I wasn't about to repeat the morning experience.
The image is forever sketched in my mind as I saw him coming down the hill towards me. I knew instantly it was him.
At 26 yards, I had the ole Hoyt pulled back and the arrow was released. He jumped straight up and I watched him go down...85 yards later I had my hands on a very special buck.
I wont go into all the details but my emotions were all over the place. I sat there and chilled with God for a while...giving alot of thanks and praise. Time stood still for a bit while I soaked everything in. I know its just deer hunting but this buck means a lot to me!!!
Here's "Wide 11"...147 3/8" and 20" spread.
