I don't think he is ready for an expensive keep sake knife. I am leaning to a cheap, but good lock blade.

Heck, I don't like non lock blade knives myself. If he cuts a finger off I will be divorced.

I started my kids with an low end multitool (Leatherman).

Then I got both a cheapo LOCKBLADE Buck Knife.

They both still use the Leatherman and I have no idea when the last time I saw them with the knives.
