Wrap as little bow string, artificial sinew around the ends. That'll stop the cuts.

I started working on it today. Didn't have much time to shoot but it went a lot better. I found some heavier field points so I have my arrows a lot closer to what I should end up with (I have a care package ordered with everything I need to actually bareshaft tune). Just by concentrating on keeping a low wrist grip and not drawing with as much weight on my bottom finger, I was able to shoot 8 times without a single cut. I can't wait to actually tune it now! Thanks for all the tips, they are already helping a ton!

As a late entry to the discussion, if you take a piece of an arrow shaft, roll it up the feather from the bottom about 1/2", using reasonably firm pressure and then put a drop of super glue on the rolled down quill, you should eliminate the hand cuts.
