Hey, I thought I would start another thread, because so many of you tried to help me with a guess.
First, for those of you who were worried about her being open or having a calf, she is very young, and probably under 200 lbs. I have no bull at this time. There is another thread way back about when I am going to get or rent one.
Yesterday, I got her in my pen, and then I loaded her in the trailer. I had to basically lift her as he is pretty weak and docile. I thought she was too sick for me to doctor myself with my little experience. Also I wanted to know what was the problem so I took her to the vet.
The vet said, it was all caused by parasites. She also said she didn't think she would make it. Something about the worms clotting and killing her anyway after treated, but they could keep her a couple of days and try.
So, I there I am, they are telling I can spend 420 bucks for a 500 dollar calf, or I could just put her down. Well I was already in about 100 for the vet to look at her and do a stool sample. So call it 300 more.
I know a smart man would have just wrote her off and put the money toward a healthy animal. I know when you run a few cattle you are going to lose some. I lost two last year, one after spending 600 at the vet. They still don't know what killed it. BUT, I just couldn't do it....so I told them to go ahead and try and save her, while I called myself stupid under my breath.
Anyway, they called late yesterday afternoon and told me, so far so good.
I suck as a cattleman, but maybe I can get some credit for being a decent human.
Anyway, like always, thanks for looking at a blurry pic, and a short description and trying to help me. TBH is very valuable resource that I trust and use often.
