The warden might be in for ticketing the offender(s), but it's usually up to the property managers to get the stands off. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I definitely have the coordinates. Didn't take pictures. Was thinking about reporting it but wonder if the game warden will go back there to deal with it. It's definitely on public land but quite a ways in. Also makes me a bit worried since I'm probably on their trail cameras. You never know how someone might react.

I can assure everyone of you that it is not private land. The fence with boundary signs is about 100 yards from each stand. Plus, I followed the trails straight to private land. That is marked clearly. I don't have pictures of the trails as once I found the stuff it was time for me to go. I think I was about 1.5 miles from the nearest road.

Man, I used to could walk to my stands blindfolded way back in the woods, but I find myself relying more on my GPS to get to my "spots". Never had a GPS when I was younger and never had any problems. So I sympathize with the guys hanging the crap every 20 feet, but I agree it's littering and it makes to woods look like crap. It's only the random newbies who uses it on the areas I hunt nowadays. The reflective tacks can be handy but remove them when your done or once you familiarized yourself to the area. Some of the stuff I hunt is so thick, it's not about getting to your GPS coordinate, it's about hitting the right trails, or you end up on your hands and knees crawling through briars so thick you can't see through them.

Oh, and to boot they had those little clip on trail markers every 10 feet on trails big enough for a side by side. I was amazed that they couldn't follow a trail that was so beat down. With that being said, I didn't pull the thread off topic lol.

Rough crowd ... some folks are just not as directional savy as you awesome outdoorsmen
Seems like moving flagging to cause someone to get lost is wrong ... DWC |

I don’t understand why people feel like they can just do what they want on public land. Flagging tape is annoying to me, but just the top of the iceberg unfortunately. Public hunting is a privilege and I wish more people saw/treated it that way.

The trail markers were 1.5 miles in, where they cross over into the public. I assume not too many people have stumbled upon it

I always carry a compass when in unfamiliar places, and sometimes in familiar country, from bad experiences in the past. Take a reading BEFORE you go in too and set your direction for the direction to follow out, not the other way around. |

no surveyors on public hunting areas, and I've been in a lot of them. Like others have said, we find tape that's been weathered over long periods of time, it is not 'soybean tape' ... lol! Whenever or where ever I see it in mass quantities, its coming down and either carry it out or bury it.

After the season is over. I will see if I can get the SHNF onboard. I have had a lot of fun on public land and this is a way to give back.

While I agree the surveyors flagging is an eyesore it has its uses. I have used it to mark some blood spots in case I lose the trail so I can go back to my last spot. I pull it back up on my way out though so nobody will come across it. I only started hunting public land five years ago and it took me a while to find my way around so I started slowly going further and further until I learned the landmarks. Land surveying is my career so I have a good sense of direction but not everyone does so remember that when you’re pulling it down.
I take it down when I see it on my way in if no other vehicles are there but never on my way out just in case someone is back there. I also had a good contact I met here on the green screen that had been hunting public land for over twenty years meet me my first time out scouting. He spent hours showing me around the place in general so I could access different areas, of course these were spots well away from his hunting spots. Side Note: I’m not absolutely sure if all surveyors flagging is this way but every kind, color and brand I have ever come across is biodegradable. |

I'm not sure why someone felt it was needed on this trail, but they won't find it if/when they come back out.

I used flagging tape this past weekend at the H to let everyone know where I was. Out there almost everyone wants to spread out. I used two pieces and took them home when I left.

Flag away so I know to stay away don't bother me at all when I'm out and see it I know someone is already hunting the area so mind my own business and move on

I used to be good enough to find my spot without tape or a light when I hunted LANWR as a young buck. First year of two I sinned and used tape but always took it down after my hunt was over. I graduated to a hand held GPS after a while (pre smart phone days)and never looked back.

I will admit I have left a flagging tape trail deep into the woods from where I parked to walk in to hunt during a week on national forest land. The first flag was visible from the parking spot. But the trail I flagged was into the woods across the road and in a direction away from the area I was going to be hunting. It is human nature for someone to follow a trail once found. I never saw a hunter in the woods at my stand that week. But I could tell people did park near me or when I was not there and follow the trail to nowhere.

Illegal to be in possession of where I hunt. Bio degradable only.
