Which Rifle To Buy & Why?

I am looking to buy a new bolt rifle for under $550. These are the calibers I'm thinking about. Which caliber of the ones below would you go with and why?

These are the few I'm stuck between. I really like the the Savage 25 LWT Varminter look and feel. All these calibers come in that series.

    .204 - fast/center fire/low recoil

    17 Hornet - Fast/center fire/low recoil

.223 - (tempting because I already have a lot of this ammo)

    Thoughts? Opinions? Experience?

And what are you going to do with it?

            .

For what your looking for might consider the 22-250 also. Will do what the others will and will kill all the deer you want. Great round for kids also. Hunter has been shooting one since he was 6.

For the purposes you suggest you will be using it, I'd recommend the .223.

Love my 220 swift, load heavy for the light deer down here and light loads routinely take coyotes to 500 yds.

Believe you will find most loads the swift shoots flatter, but the 22-250 has heavier loads available. I own both and prefer the swift and have T3 in .223, but can't get the groups I want. But that could be I just have not found the correct loads yet.

I would pick the 223 if you're going to be shooting deer with it

Basically, but it's more expensive. I will say that this synthetic has a much nicer feel to it than most synthetic stocks....one of the reasons I chose this gun.
