My dad and two uncles were linemen. Since you live in the Houston area you may want to check in with IBEW Local 66.

Worked as a lineman from when I was 19-21
                Rewarding pay and work
But it’s tough work, but it taught me a lot in the long run

I work for centerpoint out of Houston. We're required to reatain our CDL so that dwi might hurt a little. Pay is great but summers will be tough on your body and you can't schedule when power goes out so you have to have a good women who understands you can't be there for everything

I worked offshore for 4 years 21 on 21 off and 28 on 14 off. I think she could handle it.

That is a great place to start. I worked for them for 16 years until Kerrville bought out the distribution system. What is good about LCRA is that there are so many other parts of the electric system to go into that pay very well. You can start as a lineman but end up in a field of your choice that gives you training and not so hard on your body.
