    AR Optics

Hoping some of you with more experience than me can educate and suggest optics for a new AR-15.

I plan on installing iron sights but would like optics too.

What have you used that you would recommend and what should I avoid?

    Thanks!

Depends on how far out you want to reach.
Anything vortex is worth the money.

I'm waiting for Palmetto to bring back the Vortex Sparc and 10 Magpul mags deal back...
      It's taking them forever...

Anything Trijicon is **** near indestructible. I carried an RX 01 from 2003-2008. It's been thrown around countless times and abused and still glows strong today. It's a 6.5 moa but I regularly worked it out to 300 meters or so. Also went through a fairly nasty car bomb in 2004 and it held zero because about a minute later i smoked ole Haj on my way to help buddy. Long story short if you buy a Trijicon you won't be disappointed.

What is its purpose in life? Truck gun? Blind gun? Predator gun? Pig gun? Home defense? Each of those I would suggest a different optic for.

No real intended purpose. Plan is to just go shoot some targets.

3-9x40 of some kind or another depending on your price range.

What range do you intend to shoot to? I have a Leupold VX-R Hog on mine. 1.25-4 x 20mm. It is crystal clear and when it is dialed down I can easily get on target for a snap shot with both eyes open.

for close to medium distances I think the nightforce atacr 1-8 f1 is hard to beat.

if budget is lower I'd go nightforce nxs 1-8

budget below that id go trijicon accupower 1-8

budget below that id go vortex strike eagle 1-8.

the 1-8 is such a useful range for an all around gun.

Yeah man for 30 to 300 yds id recommend a good ol 3-9 or a 4x12, and the P-series mounts are hard to beat

I like 1-6x or 1-8x scopes for all-around rifles. Primary Arms and Vortex scopes are great for the money.

1-4 burris tac 30 on mine. Its about as versatile as you can get for 10-300 yds.

I’ve got a Vortex 1-4 that I love. Smoked an aoudad at 450 yards with it which made me realize the 1-6 or 1-8 would have been worth the wait.
