Default Traditional fsc for week 47

Happy Thanksgiving folks.
This week we'll do a turkey shoot. You'll need to print one of these out or do a pretty close drawing size wise to make it work. Looking for kill shots. Center of neck or brain pan. Not sure yet how we will trade it but generally closest to center of head. However a center spine shot would drop one too. You can shoot one first shot per day. Use the same target as it's a lot of ink to print and a pita to draw.
Generally a have fun shot on a target you might get to see in the stand. 12 yards for the growed folks and 5 for the young uns.
Good shooting, have fun and may God bless you this Thanksgiving.

Gary

Day one shot from sitting position. 4" low as I aimed for the eye. Held too long. Definitely a kill shot center neck.

Good call, and good shot Mr. Gary.

I edited the image some to make it use less ink to print, and I put a white speck in the middle of the eye to measure to.

Bad hits like that is why I use broadheads like this for turkey.

They'll turn a bad head/neck hit into a dead turkey every time.

Closer than mine (which I didn't actually measure just guesstimated) but probably just a close shave.
I agree. Would not shoot a turk with a small game head or field point.

Your shot would have been a kill regardless of the point used.

I only hunt/shoot turkey in the spring season, and I designed/built these broadheads specifically to be used for neck/head shots, but they will work just as well on a body shot if that's all I got.

In real life those heads are always moving. We used to head shoot the 3D turkey at the range with compounds. It was an easy shot even at 30 yards. Not so much with a trad bow.

Even though my measurement is a bit longer, I am much MUCH happier with the shot placement.

Day three was closer but not what I'd call a kill shot.

Another bad hit where I believe the broadhead would have saved the day.

Being Turkey day & all, I went for my preferred shot on the bird.

Nailed it.

Not my best measurement, but up to now my best kill shot by far.

Thanks Bro.

Now the truth -
The wind was blowing, and making me wobble all over the place.
I let it rip on a drift by, and got lucky.
Could have just as easily been a complete miss.

You have to shoot your wobble area. Trying to time it can lead to jerking the trigger or a bad release. Looks like your brain knew what to do.

Well, I end pretty much the same as I began, with a shot result
I was not overly happy with.

But, I'm relatively satisfied, and confident, that given my broadhead of choice,
6 of 6 shots taken would have resulted in a very quickly dead turkey.

Kept shooting for fun. A few kill shots, but I I would definitely shoot the body in a hunting situation.

I kinda feel the same way.
Can't say I won't shoot one, because I love messing with them in the spring,
but I'm sure not all fired up about it like I used to be.

Rick

P.S.
There are ways of cooking them, that make them pretty good to eat, especially the breasts.

I got a recipe for chicken fried turkey breast that might make you change you mind!!!

I like that stuff almost better than chicken fried deer meat!

Oh I enjoyed chicken fried. Right up to that second heart attack. Now I enjoy it once a year or so.
