Covered in deer this weekend, saw up to 40-50 deer one hunt. Mostly young bucks, but did have one big old 8 come in that we have some history with and needs an arrow. He got smart and left before shooting light. Back at it next weekend

Yes sir, it was unbelievable. Sunday evening they were moving. I counted 23 deer in the feed pen at once. Wasn't expecting that for this time of year. Even though we don't have the acorns like most of you guys.

Nice goat and bucks everyone!

Just getting caught up. Hunted opening weekend and the deer are spread out, I managed a no brow tine management deer but didn't see much else at the feeders. There was a 150" toad killed by a lease mate opening morning but there was a little deer camp drama over it so I'll just post a picture of the deer.

Kind of...buck was definitely mature but lease manager wanted one more year on him. Miscommunication between lease manager and first-year member over whether do not shoot list was "suggested"...

Yeah, it does. Exactly the situation I do not want in deer camp. One guy just shot the biggest buck of his life and wants to celebrate and one guy just lost the top deer in an extensive management program and wants to kick the other guy off the lease. There are a couple of other factors involved and I definitely see both sides, but that's not for the green screen. There are a couple of positives, though...everyone is crystal clear on the do not shoot list and other unwritten rules and we've got some good solid physical evidence that the management plan is working and we've got the potential to grow some giants.

Sounds like a good reason not to have unwritten rules. If you want something to be a certain way, put it on paper.

Agreed...and I'm a dadgum lawyer - just figured everyone was on the same page but it looks like there were two sides to the paper. No worries, it's been worked out. It was nice to put my hands on a big heavy rack like that knowing it's the result of a few years of big feed bills and tagging out on does and 3 year old forkhorns...chalk it up to a learning experience and move on!

Understand management plans and we have a great group. Mistakes will happen, not worth tuning deer camp vibe over 1 deer. Heck of a buck!

Putting on paper exact age requirements is important. If the age requirement is 5.5 and a good buck shows that looks 5.5 then hard to turn around and tell said hunter he is on no shoot list. If there is a question on age thats different, in that case I'd say majority rules.
If you wanted this particular buck to hit 6.5 then I would change the age requirement on all trophy deer to 6.5 across the board.

Congrats to the hunter, personally I don't see a problem taking that buck if he met the requirements. Hope everything around camp gets worked out, hate being on pins and needles at camp. Ruins the entire season.

First hunting trip out west was a blast! Had some feeder issues that hurt or productivity. Seen maybe 15 deer the past 3 days. 1 mature buck about 80 yards away kept on walking. Had 2 long horn spikes come in but no shot presented.
I had a old doe come in stomping and blowing all hunt. Had cuts/marks all over her body. She decided to stomp 1 to many times before getting a rage to the heart. Took 15 steps and fell over dead. Also killed my first rattle snake and seen my first tarantula.
