Default Back at it today

I just got back in the tree. These live hunts never seems to work for me but Iím giving it another go. My target buck came in last night with only 3-4 minutes of shooting light left. I had already lowered my bow down and packed up when he came out. I hauled my bow back up and nocked an arrow as he was coming around. I put my bow up and couldnít see my pins. For the first time last night I was glad to see hogs show up because he took off and I was able to get down.

Iím not sure if heíll show tonight but heís an evening regular.

The target

I don’t have a target buck, hadn’t run a camera in years. Anything that shows up will be a pleasant surprise.

He came out and I watched him out of range for 20-25 minutes. He finally came in to 20 yards and freaking blew the shot and think I gut shot him. He jumped out of the pen and walked off hunched over. He stood on the other side of a small oak grove and then walked slowly out of sight.

I canít believe I did that.

4 hour minimum wait, 8 would be better. Call a dog now, he's a nice buck.

Stomach hit deer will almost always lay down and die within 200 yards of shot if you dont push him.

If you did hit in the guts dogs are very successful at finding them. My dog never lost a gut shot that I can remember. If you have someone with a dog close put him on it. Deer will stop to fight the dog. Gut shot deer do not run far as a general rule.

If you think it is gut I would put a dog on him that works off lead. Usually does not even have to be that good of a dog. Just a dog that will work a wounded deer. Young dog would be fine in my opinion.

That is a dead deer. A dog would find that deer. Looks like vital blood. Looks arterial. Liver would be a little darker I think from what I see from the picture.

Agreed on the blood color. Was more going off of reaction described with no gut evidence.
I bet a dog can find him if he is down.
Best of luck on the rest of the track.
