It was benzene not like it was H2S.
My grandpa and rest of the old-timers used to wash their hands and their tools off use it like a degreaser. And yes some of them develop skin cancer and maybe even lung cancer but that was after almost taking a bath in it for 20 to 30 years.
If they're telling you it's benzene what you ought to be worried about is what they're not telling you was in it.

I've lived on "Cancer Coast" my entire life.. I've worked in the plants for 30 of those and still do..
I can't tell you how many people that have cancer or have cancer and died, including family members, that were exposed to Benzene daily... It's highly regulated these days for a **** good reason.. But yea I've washed my hands in it myself "back in the day".. Numbing cuts nickle "never cease" like Benzene..

I almost forgot about draeger tubes. Using those seems like a lifetime ago. Thanks for bringing back fond memories of my emergency response days.

If you have to use a draeger with a benzene tube its 20 looong pumps!!

ITC announced that the tanks were burning Naptha, Xylene and torelene (spelling?). They never said benzene, now that the foam leaked and benzene was noted, was benzene burning the whole time, or is there a logical explanation of the process that would make sense?

Serious question for anyone with the process knowledge.

One of the tanks burning contained Pygas. There is Benzene in Pygas, but I’m not sure of the concentration.
When Benzene burns, it puts off CO and CO2.
Xylene, Naptha, Toluene, and Pygas were in the tanks that burned.

I just got word that a dyke wall failed and now benzene along with other chemicals is going down tucker's bayou into the channel.

I’m worried how the levy breach will impact the foam and their ability to pump out the chemicals below it. It has to make it harder or more prone to future releases of what’s under it.
