I am not sure where "Over Yonder" is located but you may look up fence suppliers. We have a big one in Beaumont called Bell Fence and they sell everything, look in your area.

I do agree with staggering the cross boards. I did that as well and I think my fence was far stronger.

Crew just left... after several weeks of rain delays, ours is finally up.

In the end I (me alone) got to tear down the old chain link, remove trees/stumps and generally clear and haul off between me and both neighbors. And I got 20 years on both of em

And while we'd all 3 had over the fence convos last summer about doing the privacy fence, splitting the costs on the sides... in the end, I got to eat that too.

That being said, I opted for the "pretty" sides facing in.

Depending on what your location is, check city and county building codes. City of Arlington requires metal posts set in concrete, they will make you remove wood post and replace with metal when you rebuild your fence. Found this out the hard way.

You would be surprised what people give away on craigslist for free, I have seen everything you would need to build a fence.

I’m doing a small fence project. Mostly adding to my current cinder block.
I have already rough cut enough Doug fir for the project just waiting for them to season.

I’m going with horizontal slip fence.

I would go with metal posts and bit the bullet and put a treated rot board along the bottom.

I did mine, which was 400' of fence for our backyard. Be sure and rent or if you have a gas powered post hole digger. Save a lot of work and time. I did the pre built, being I was doing 400' and it would have taken us days to complete if we did them individually. If cost wasnt a factor I would have done the metal post and cedar. But, for the cost I am happy with ours. Then again we are planning to sell in the next year.

Turned out decent. You will be glad you built the gate wide.

I owned a fence company for about 10 years. Dont cheat yourself!
Metal poles. Worth the extra expense.
                          Treated 2 x 4's
                          1 x 6 x 6 cedar pickets
                          Use deckmate screws, not nails
If you want true privacy do board on board with a trim and cap
An average cedar fence is going to run in the neighborhood of $20 a linear foot. You can build yourself for just about half.

Is your cap in the first picture a pair of 1x4's with a 2x4 laid on top of them?

My brother provided the wood for this out of mill leftovers.
