Default Hunting the arctic blast??

I will be leaving early in the morning to deer hunt public land the next few days. I will be tent camping and "roughing" it as dad calls it. Are there any advantages to this super cold weather? Anyone else going to be out hunting?

What part of the state will you be in? That will determine how cold it gets...

Seriously be careful, temps are going to be dangerously cold beginning tonight. If you are in NE Texas you could see low teens or single digits

I went out this morning and I saw more deer this morning (before 8am) than I have all season. 4 bucks and 5 does. Closed the deal on a doe to get some meat.

I'm wondering if they're up and moving ahead of the front or if it was just coincidence.

Ill be tucked in the big woods so hopefully that breaks most of the wind. With triple layers and insulated camo coveralls, I should be good. I'm thinking the deer will be hunkered down all night and move most of the day, but i'm just an ole knucklehead from east tx. Guess we will see how it goes.

mosquitos where i hunt are the size of a small chicken hawk, having the thermocell on, i use the off and matches as a flame thrower as added protection

Wish I could hunt this go around of cold weather, but I will be working nights. More then likely fighting freezing issues on the pipeline and compressor stations.

Too cold for me! The big thing is going to be the 15-25 m.p.h. winds out of the north.

I love hunting in cold weather! I like testing my gear and seeing how long I can last lol. Hunting in North Carolina I hunted in some single digit temps.

Predator hunted in 12 degree weather today. It ain't bad if the wind ain't blowing. The other day my fingers got numb and didn't see anything by noon so I went home. It was so cold nothin wanted any part of that weather. Had I been seeing coyotes I'd have had frost bite by the end of the day.

I don't know about deer but when it's cold coyotes are on their feet looking for food. I don't see why deer wouldn't do the same thing.

Most of the critters will bed down when the front hits and will stay bedded until they need to drink and eat. This can last for 24hrs or more before they start moving and feeding, usually when the sun pops out or the wind dies down. Once up and moving and acclimated they will continue to move to stay warm. They will also seek sheltered areas out of the wind, canyons, low areas, thick cedars, etc. to hang out in.

Actually its the opposite. Night, they move to keep themselves warm. Day, they will layup on Southside of ridges facing the sun.

Wish I could be out there!. Wood feel like a warm front after this vacation. Avg of 6 degrees this week in NY and Pa. Crazy! We're using the garage for extra freezer space.

I never hunt the big fronts like this almost always see the least amount of deer. Drove in from work last night and deer were all over the place ahead of it so I feel good about staying in.

Agreed. When the opportunities are minimal, you make the most out of them though. Sometimes it works out.

Last time we had a cold snap the deer were moving all over the place. Hoping that’s the case tomorrow evening

The wind out of the north was pretty rough. Deer movement was slow, saw a couple doe. It wouldn't of been so bad if it wasn't for the wind.

Deer that are not used to this cold last are not going to move very well. They are just like us try to stay warm and move very little. In Sonora I have learned North wind no deer South wind deer move very well.

Didn't want to leave the house with teens weather coming up. Went out on the hill behind the house yesterday to a tree line that is a pretty good funnel. Hunting in the snow on the ground; always fun. Nothing moving tho.
