Default Picked up new truck and trailer today.

I’m pretty excited about this. I know it’s just a truck and trailer, but it’s the foundation of my new business. The truck is an ‘19 F350 Powerstroke. The trailer is a 25ft Gooseneck from East Texas Trailers with (2) 10K pound Dexter axles and the monster ramps on back of the dovetail that creates an extra 5ft of useable platform when folded up. Tomorrow I’m driving down to Irving to pick up my new CAT 299D2 XHP with the Forestry/Land management package and a CAT HM415 high flow mulcher head. I’m so pumped about it I prolly won’t sleep tonight.

Thank you.
It is a lot of money and it scares me jumping in so deep, but I have a pretty strong business plan and somewhat of a safety net, atleast for a while. I hope that I can one day be 100% self employed.

Looks to me like the only thing that you didn’t get were dual rear wheels... That’s some nice tools you bought there. Drive safe.

Iíve owned many Super Duty trucks, but never a dually. I think Iíd prolly be pretty hard on those extra wide fenders. They prolly wouldnít last long. I did give a lot of thought to getting a dually this time, but I couldnít take the leap.

About 13 years ago I did the same thing. New Dodge 1 ton, gooseneck trailer and then drove to Holt Cat in Ft. Worth and picked up a new backhoe. Spent about $175K in a couple of days and was just hoping it all paid for itself. I was nervous.

Good luck in your new adventure.

Man nice set up!

I will definitely call you soon to look at my Eufaula place.

Have a day or hour rate yet? Have you ran this type equipment before?

I had a guy do 2 days on my Grayson Co place. It was amazing how much he was able to do.

Talk soon

Sean
Sean,

Since Iím trying to get the business off the ground and get some publicity, my hourly rate will be $125 per hour starting out. Most people in this area charge $140-$160+ per hour and they have a 8Ė10 hour minimum requirement. I want to get all the work I can so Iím going to be cheaper and more flexible. I will have to charge a fee for anything over 1hr from my location due to fuel costs. However, I will travel anywhere that the customer needs me. I want the customer to be happy when I leave their place and Iíll do everything I can to ensure that.

As far as how much clearing can be done in a certain amount of time, it all depends on the type of trees/brush, the terrain, the density, how fine you want the mulch material to be, etc... If you have a prairie grass field full of cedar trees and sumac, I can mow that stuff down in the blink of an eye. If you have dense cover full of hardwoods (oak) and Iím underbrushing it, that takes more time.

Feel free to contact me if you have anymore questions.

I spent 2 weeks running a 100hp rental machine doing cedar in the hill country a few months ago. Pretty impressive machines.
Your hourly rate seems pretty cheap, don't cut yourself short.

The 299D2 XHP Forestry package with the HM415 CAT mulcher weighs in right about ~14,500 pounds dry. It hold 32 gallons of fuel, plus the hydraulic fluid so add that in.

Iím very blessed, fortunate, and lucky enough that I do not have to make a living off the business at this time. I just want to be able to cover the cost of owning the machine and insurance in the beginning. I hope it grows into something more in time. Iíd like to have a medium sized excavator and a D4XL sized dozer later on down the road.
