Baby hognose snake.

Found this little Eastern Hognose a little while ago. I hadn't seen one with quite that much orange on it before. I think it just recently shed.

Yeah it's still alive. I just watched it for a little bit and let it do its thing. They mainly eat toads but little ones like that raid mouse nest most of the time.

They really are. It's funny how they puff out and act scary until you actually mess with them. Then they flop over and play dead.

I caught one that was dang near black and red. One of the biggest I'd seen also.

i just can't believe how many people are scared of snakes
that one will probably spread out a small hood like a cobra if you mess with it long enough. and if that don't scare you off it will roll over and play dead.
snakes are good neighbors, they eat all the vermin.
that being said, I would never let a venomous one stay around the house.
find one in the woods, and it gets left there... alive.
