              X2 on this. First step is have emergency savings to cover some unexpected. If he’s considering establishing an IRA you don’t have to use a broker or FA. I went direct through Vanguard of course mine was a direct rollover from old 401-k to trad IRA. Their funds have some of the lowest expense ratios. Some in the range of 40-60 cents/ $1000 invested
