Metallica is easily the "biggest" metal band ever.

Priest, Maiden and especially Sabbath get thier due.

Actually you are spot on with the Satan stuff. I tend to stay away from the blatant stuff.

Bands I have stayed away from because of that or being to far out there:

Eyehategod
Lamb of God
Ghost
Goatwhore
Slayer
Slipknot

I have really enjoyed their last two albums.

I have moved more towards prog, stoner, and sludge metal.

Pretty much all metallica songs are greatness... One I didn't see mentioned, that I think is just awesome is No Leaf Clover performed live with the Transiberian Orchestra. https://youtu.be/Sh5S3OxiE-s

Always in the mood for Whiskey in the Jar, and Don’t Tread on Me. There are so many good ones. It’s like asking for my favorite AC/DC song.

Don't get me wrong , I love some Slayer. But , I also feel Max blew Tom away on the mic and to this day still does.
Lamb Of God is up there on my list also. The first time I saw them was at reliant with shadows fall and slipknot. I'm just not sure if they are in my top three ,top five yes.
For some reason I have been listening to a lot of Gojira, they have moved up on my list as well. I also love me those two female metal vocals from Butcher Babies and Jinjer

Anything before the Lars vs Napster fiasco. I never really cared for them after that for some reason. But as a kid in the 80's I was a fan from the first time I listened to my friends "Kill 'em All" cassette.
