Hey guys. Names Dennis I am new to bowhunting lake Georgetown but got drawn this year and just had a few questions if y'all veterans at the game might know if you don't mind. Im not asking for specific spots or anyone's honey holes Im just wondering where do you guys get into the areas at. I don't see access gates on the map. I have a couple areas I want to check out just can't figure out where to go in at...

Welcome.

Zones that border roads, like DB Woods, you can park on the side of the road and jump the fence.

Others are accessible off the trailhead, so you can walk/bike from the nearest park. Some neighborhoods may have trailhead access, Google maps can help.

If you were to ask for access thru private property, you may get it. Unlikely, but possible.

I've even seen some that use a boat from a park launch and access remote areas that way.

Best of luck.

Anyone ever had any problems with leaving pop ups out there? Or feeders?

Occasional theft and vandalism, but in general it has not been reported very often on this board. I have not personally had any issues with either.

Most of my complaints have been dogs off of their leash running thru setup, dove hunters with guns attempting to hunt under my feeder, etc.

I plan on staying in the areas that are boxed archery only. You don't have problems with people stacking up on each other out there. Sorry for the questions just new to this and This seems to be the only place i can get any answers.

I went out and set my feeder last Saturday. Son and I got out there at 10 am and it was already hot.

I did have a trail cam stolen about 8 years ago and damage to my feeder once.

Let.me ask a question.... I found a good spot that wasn't marker and no feeders around it. But it's right off a hike and bike trail. I'm new to this and don't see where it says how far you have to be from major trails. Any help?

From the orientation slides ...

 DO NOT place stands or feeders within 300’ (100 yards) of residence, buildings,
public roads, or hiking trail without ranger approval. Any stand or feeder within 300’
or not approved will be removed.

 DO NOT place stands within 300’ of another hunter’s stand.

 Hunting blinds or stands may not be affixed to trees in a manner that causes
penetration, damage or defacement of the tree.

Well ****.... Looks like I'm in a real pickle. I can't find a single place that doesn't have feeders or a major trail.

You may want to check with project office. They may allow you to hunt the pigs now. I know they hate to see them around so much.

Is this someone's feeder? It's less than 10yrds off the main trail in the open. This makes us hunters look bad.

It's not mine. Although good luck finding anywhere to hunt in cedar hollow, that's the most over populated area I've seen. Feeders everywhere

Its got to be someone new that is not aware of the 300' rule for trails and fences.

On a positive note.

Got my qualifier test done. Sure was a lot nicer shooting in AC vs out in the heat.

I believe so. Sent an email asking Stacy if any areas would be closed. She said she wasn't aware of any, but Brad would be able to provide updates when he returned from Somerville.

Do they have the same worn out target as they have had the last few years?

Or did they get a new one? It has been hard to decipher the 5, 8 and 10 point boundaries.

I shot a brand new hog target. Actually, it was a little harder to see the vitals on the black hog, than it was on the brown deer.

How does the scoring work is it like a typical 3d shoot. A 12 ring a 10 and a 8?

Heart for 10, vitals / lungs for 8, on animal for 5. 15 arrows, 120pts min.

Really an easy shoot.

Never done Double G but went by Saturday on my way home from my moms in Jarrell. They had just broken down the setup.

Guys were very nice. Plan to possibly try them out this time.

Shot at Double G the other day. It was a Merrel bag target with a bear on it. All 15 shots were from 20 Yards. 1 step down. Just gotta pay me fee and make it out to orientation now.

Went to check things today. Good deer on trail cam, until someone pulled batteries out of it! Put up a second camera in less viable area, might catch whoever is messing with stuff.

There are not supposed to be any on the Core property, but a few head blowing a fence is not an impossibility considering the storms in the last week. Report it to the office, and they can contact neighbors to get someone to come by and round them up.

Post a cam photo if you have one.
