...never mind. I reread the OP and noticed it was in a small pond...

Ya'll are nuts. That's obviously from the new cross-breed of aquatic chupacabra. The government has been breeding them with sharks to get new species. They also have flying ones, invisible ones, and the regular plain ol' cabra variety.

If you have otters, you better get rid of them quick before all your fish end up like this.

But I'm gonna go with boat prop.

I'm going back to turtle and possibility bird or maybe a mermaid.
I'm also considering going back to grade school for reading comprehension. Didn't realize OP said 1 acre pond. Doh!

I'd guess a water turkey over turtle just based on size and speed of bass

I'm another one that learned a water turkey and cormorant aren't the same thing. But I'll bet they have the same nasty habits! Thanks for sharing that.
BTW, I agree red eared turtles have no effect, but I live in softshell country and those big sliders are hard on fish population.

Otter, and if you want any fish left i your pool, hang out with rifle and shoot them before it is too late. They can wipe out a large pool in a matter of weeks.

so, to totally hijack this thread, the diving birds i see in the ponds and lakes and bayous are cormorants? how do you tell the two birds apart?

Dad caught a glimpse of a big snapping turtle today. He was stalking ducks. Trap had been ordered. We shall see.
