    Out of Focus Buck

Many of you were interested in the "out of focus" buck in the thread Bachelor Group South Central Texas Bucks

    Here is his story:

All of the deer are on a 1200 acre high-fenced working cattle ranch. All of the bucks are from normal open ranch breeding from unknown pairings except for the big "out of focus" buck. He too was born on the ranch but his genetic line is known because the owner/rancher found him as a tiny fawn and tagged him and we were able to know who his mother was once he was back with her. It turned out that she was one of two tagged does that had been bred by top end bucks when the owner purchased them.

#21 was tagged on 20 June 2013 as a tiny fawn. Unfortunately I was not there so we do not have pictures of him.

The following picture is #21 as a yearling on 28 July 2014. That big blob on his right antler got broken off in the pasture (see blood dripping) and ultimately fell completely off.

The next two pictures are of him on 16 October 2015 as a 2 1/2 yo

The next two pictures are of him on 20 August 2016 as a 3 1/2 yo

Based on the sheds that we found (1 as a yearling and both as a 2 yo) he scored about 145 as a yearling and 235 as a 2 1/2 yo. This year we will wait until he is in hard antler and if we can get some good pics we'll make a guess. It looks like it has been a big jump to me.

Make your own guesses, we would like to see what others estimate.

At what age will y'all decide to shoot him?

Holy smoke! I have no experience in judging/scoring something like this, but I'll guess 325"
