The 410 is as effective as a 12gauge. All my Brenneke 410 slug hits on big boars have been one shot drops. The triple ought is actually more effective than a 12gauge for me. 12gauge 3” has ten pellets, the 410 has five in a column. I shoot these things through a full choke into a hogs neck and lights out.

My most cherished firearm is my Grandpas single shot hardware store brand .410.
Love the 410, first gun I ever fired. Great trainer with my boys.

      Don't mean to hijack... .410 is a caliber as to a gauge...correct?

I have a had an H&R single shot .410 since I was 12, I am 46 now. I passed my PA hunter safety course the Saturday before, and when I came home from school that day my mom handed it to me. I don't covet material things but this is my most cherished possession (she died a few years later). My dad told her to buy me a 20 but the store clerk talked her into the .410. I love that little cheap shotgun and it has taken a lot of rabbits and pheasants over the years. When you only have one shot, and .410 at that, you learn to make it count LOL.
