I'm bringing my 16 y/o son. Split tail is always allowed, but they better be prepared for some men to unwind with no filter.

Yes you can get there by Kayak as long as the wind isn't to bad and you don't mind the boat wakes.

As far as an extra spot I'm sure there will be its not bass fishing just jigging for crappie so you can fish several people out of 1 boat.

Should be some good fishing easily within kayak distance. Good thing about the camp being on the south shore is you'll be protected from the prevailing SE summer winds. Worst case scenario... bring a rope. I'll tow you behind my Skeeter!!

If y'all want I can probably do a little seminar Friday night and try to get folks up to speed on the slabs and likely bring some Bonehead and Thermocline baits in some of my favorite Rayburn colors. All I've fished for the last 15 years is crappie. I'm nothing special but I'm fair at best and it will be worth the price of admission anyhow.

Just go out the week before and mark some piles then hand out SD cards with all the waypoints!!

I booked the Freedom Lodge. Gonna be strippers and cocaine at my place both nights!!

I’ve already got 8-10 non-tbher’s committed to going. Y’all don’t miss out on this epic weekend that is sure to become an annual event!

All the fish in Rayburn are north of the 147.....y'all stay up that way. I'll patrol the south end to make sure none slip down this way.....

Fair enough!

We used plastics and hand ties in these colors!

Bonehead 2" slim sticks and stump bugs in
Grapevine
Palestine special
Paradise
Slick
White lightning

Thermocline lures little fry and 2" tadpoles in
Black emerald shiner
Purple passion
Go to
Copper mine
Blue glotruese
Natural Shad

Minnows will work fine too!

1/16oz and 1/8oz heads. Pink. Lead or chartreuse.

I use 6lb clear blue stren on my spinning reels. And 10lb Florocarbon on my baitcasters. I only put maybe 30/40 yards in each baitcaster. I can do 6 rods with one $12 spool of line. Floro doesn't last too long. I change it out every couple months. Tournament buddy used braid on everything. I personally don't like braid

10lb on a spinning reel is too heavy IMO. Uncoils too much.

Slew catches more fish than most of us. So I'd do what he does!

I only throw braid, 10lb braid for fresh, 15lb braid on my salt reels.

Just got two awesome old crappie poles from my grandma! Can't wait to get them set up! They are the old two piece collapsible 10ft poles with a small built in spool at the bottom for adjusting line length. Gonna whoop them spring sacs!

Well that might be it too. Anytime I spool a spinning reel I will unspool it 50/60 yards or so behind the boat as I'm idling out of the marina to let it uncoil then reel it in. Never fish with it until I do this. Even the 6lb line acts up until you do this!!

Well, I need a new fishfinder. My cheapo one crapped out a few yrs ago. But nowadays they sure are expensive and fancy. I dont fish all that much any more so I dont need anything too fancy. Been looking at the Lowrance Hook2 4x Plotter. It looks like it doesnt have maps but can mark and save gps coordinates. Does that sound right? Can I mark a pile then come back to it later with this? See the piles and fish? Its only $120 so Im not expecting much....

I know the higher end ones with maps etc are much nicer but this is going on an old jonboat with a 1997 Mariner 25hp.......

Man, I'd LOVE to join in on this trip! Sounds like my kind of weekend... trouble for me is i'll be puttin' a smack-down on speckeled trout n redfish at the Chandeleur's...

I grew up on Rayburn... used to hunt that river bottom before it was even a lake... from Etoile to Broaddus is probably the fishiest stretch of water on any lake in the south this side of the Rio Grande! What I never understood is where all those fish came from! Back in about 1969 when all the timber had died, you could go to somewhere like the Moore farm or Lowery fields and just shut your eyes and cast a chrome Cotton Cordelle hot spot with a blue or black back and catch green trout until you wore smooth out. With a pink or white maribou jig, you could do the same thing with "white perch", with shad, perch or stink bait, you could do the same thing with catfish... channels, blues or ops... beat anything I ever saw. When the timber was still green, there were more ducks than I have ever seen anywhere! You could shoot ducks, squirrels on the same morning hunt from the same spot, and you always had to keep a slug or load of buckshot handy too because the deer would hit the lake to get away from the guys runnin' 'em with dogs...

Y'all have a great time folks! I'll be thinkin' bout you!

That sounds like a h3ll of a time! I'm not much good at crappie fishing (never really tried) but I do know a thing or two about running some trot lines if anybody is down for that.
