They're there. It's growing back very thick where the flooding had killed the vegatation off. Got a teal and a dove today. IL be out again in the am after teal.

That sounds fun. You shoot them from the boat?

I don't think it is legal in Texas to fire a weapon from a boat. I know it is definitely illegal for game species, but not completely positive for non game.

Anybody been out after pigs lately? I went out to the COD land on the north side back in October and it was so thick you could see more than a few feet. Thinking about heading out there this weekend and hoping some of the vegetation has died off.

I had two walk up next to my duck hunting boat last weekend, within 10 yards. Now I may start packing the bow on duck hunts!

Default Lake Lewisville

Did a few hours out there today.

The wind was out of the south, so I decided to hit the peninsula south of 380. Saw two hunters on their way out while I was on my way in.

I did jump a small fork horn buck and could have taken a coyote. I wasnít quite sure if rules and regs allowed me to take the yote, so I let it walk. A few fresh deer scat piles, a few old pig rutting locations, but very little fresh pig sign.

With the lake down, you may try north of 380 or over off 2181/ old Alton

I suggest trying the east side of the lake, south of 380. I know for a fact there is a decent sized sounder in that area. I saw two today just after 1pm within eye shot of Jacobs liquor store.

So in summation, directly south of rock hill road is the place to be.

Okay I have a question(s). In order to get a permit for this place, do you have to be there in person or can you buy one through the mail? Does the permit only allow for specific dates or it is valid for entire season?

I looked it up hunting for Lake Lewis. It looks like deer are not allowed to be hunted there. Only hogs and turkey. Everything else is small game or waterfowl.

Yes no deer, the permits are long gone too for this yr. To obtain one you have to do it in person.

I doubt they do. Not near the amount of contiguous land as the vine. I run into deer pretty often out there, though.

The population is a lot of young deer. I don't think it would be good for a draw out there. There are good sized deer that I've heard of, but never seen any in person. Seen a lot of does.

As soon as next years licenses are available, because you have to have the new hunting license to get a permit.

Took my dog squirell hunting a few weeks ago just to see what he would do.

Its pretty thick, but not as bad as GV can be.

Oh and the dog just wanted to chase everything that moved.

Anyone remember the dates for the 2018-2019 permits? Should be in the next week or so, right?

Usually they start giving them out on August 15th. Same day as new hunting license.

Exclamation Lake Lewisvilleís Greenbelt

If anyone is headed to the Greenbelt on Lake Lewisville, take a machete. Even the trails are over grown, and almost impossible to navigate. I was there tonight, didnít see any pork, but the signs are all there. Could be a good year to get some bacon!

I didnít get a city permit in time for it to matter for me. I had a work trip pull me out of state while they were available. I believe the gate is still closed for the whole area. There are a lot of limbs and whole trees down throughout the entire floodplain that make the area dang near useless.

Man, it has gotten thick in there this year. The poison ivy, flame leaf sumac, and various vines are definitely THICK this year.
I went over a mile and a half south of 380 on the east shore of the river. There were some decent deer tracks, some old pig rooting, and very little fresh scat (of any species). I walked the whole time into the south wind, so nothing winded me before I got there.
NADA. No vocalizations at a distance, no bumping a sounder... nothing.
It kind of makes me wonder if I am too early, or there is too much ground available above 380 (where I didnít get a permit).
I will try canoeing down hickory creek sometime in the next couple weeks... see if my fortunes turn. Iím really needing some wild pig in the freezer, so hopefully I can get on them.
Heck, I couldnít sneeze last year without sticking a pig. Now, Iím zero for 3.
