Had a freezer go out !! How to empty and clean?

Got back home after a elk hunt and found a chest deep freeze was out and now full of rotten meat!!!!
Not sure how to clean up the mess and what to do with all the rotten meat.
Thought I might try to slide it on the drive and glove up and put the stuff in plastic bags. I expect to find bloody water in the bottom.
Anyone have any tips on a clean up?

Last time that happened to me I put Vick’s under my nose, bagged and trashed the meat, rinsed and drained the freezer. Then I used bleach water, drained again, bleach water, drained again. Then baking soda and rinsed, and that finally got the smell out. But someone on here probably has a better way of doing it. My meat was only like 2 days gone, so it wasn’t terrible. I dealt with some freezers and fridges after hurricane Ike, and there was no saving them. A guy was picking them up to make a worm farm or something, which was good, because even the trash men didn’t want to mess with them.

Easy. Tape it shut and haul to the dump. Go buy new freezer.

Unfortunately I have had this happen twice first I cleaned with bleach and several other concoctions never did get the smell out. Second time I taped it up and hauled it off. Did you get an elk?

If you do anything other than this you are nuts

Now if it just got unplugged and you want to be a tightwad then go for it
I would rather buy a new freezer

I would not try to salvage the freezer, it's not worth it.

Like was suggested , clean with bleach and baking soda several times , then lay a couple of buckets of new charcoal inside and close up for a few days to a week. Charcoal absorbs the odor . May have to refresh charcoal after a few days with new .

Why attempt to clean up something that's already junk?

I put straps so the lid would not open and took it to the dump.

Agree with all above from experience. As hard as it is, just toss it and save the many migraines that would otherwise follow. Amazing that bleach and baking soda can’t make a dent in it!

Empty the rotten food and take the freezer to a recycling center. They'll give you a couple bucks for it.
