    Archery Only

As I read the regulations, there are 4 "Archery Only" counties in Texas.
In all other counties, crossbows are considered "archery" equipment.
In the 4 "Archery Only" counties, crossbows are not allowed during the "Archery Season".
    Explain the thinking behind this.

When you shoot a crossbow, it's not archery. That's my thinking

Why do so many people hate crossbows?

Not for sure, but my boys love theirs. So far they have killed a nice buck and a turkey with it this year. I sighted theirs in and it was a blast to shoot.

No Hate at all. My grandson has been killing deer and hogs with one since he was 5 years old. Hunting with him has been the high point of my life but they are not really bow hunting.
More like a single shot rifle

Crossbows are kinda like a 9mm......most people that shoot them squat to pee.

I believe that is the question. If a crossbow is not archery then why is it allowed during archery season. If it is archery then why is it not allowed in "archery only" counties. Maybe there is logic in there somewhere but I don't see it.

This is just my thinking, but it seems to be a crossbow is a lot easier to learn how to use. Maybe they don't have a lot of deer in those counties and feel bow and arrow evens the odds a bit more due to the practice and time needed to shoot a bow correctly?????

Are you 100% sure you could sight a vertical bow in for your boys?
In my mind, a bow is an individual fit piece of hunting equipment.
I really like the fact that small framed hunters and older, or handicapped hunters are able to hunt with an Xbow during the "Archery only" season, but why does the State of Texas differentiate these 4 counties from the rest of the State?
