I put the bow down and grabbed the rifle on a cold Friday morning, and I’m sure thankful I did. Sitting in my pop up on a ridge I had a great West Texas view where I could see for days. About 8:30am I catch a deer about 400yds out. By the time I get my glass on the deer I notice there is another one following closely behind. That happened to be this dude. They worked their way to about 300yds and then slowly worked further away again. At that point I realized the shot was now if it was presented. At 315yds he gave me a broadside shot and I took it. The Tikka T3 in .308 hit the mark and he dropped where he stood. This old bucks teeth were worn to nothing. Ironically a 160 class 10pt presented the same 300yd shot 2 weeks earlier at the same location but I decided to pass hoping he would close the distance and he never did. I wasn’t going to let another opportunity pass me by. I’m hopeful the 10 and I will meet again soon.
