Transfer to DVD question

My dad uses a canon elura 100. when we view the video on TV directly from the camera it's clear, it's also clear after i transfered it to my computer. When i burn it to a dvd the quality is horrible. I used windows movie maker to edit to video could this be the problem? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
