Need some info on building a bow shelf for the casa...

So, building myself a bow rack, plain and simple. Two major questions,

1. How thick do I need the wood for the shelf to be so that the hooks will have a solid grip without punching through the top of the shelf?

2. How far apart should I space the hooks if I wanted to hang multiple bows? let's say I'm going to hang 2-3 at any given time.

Hard to say without understanding your project better. What type of hooks? Will this be fancy or utility?
