    Protect a turtle shell

My son found a turtle shell in the pasture that has some really great color in it. I'm wanting to put something on the outside of it to seal it so the color won't fade and at the same time put some shine to it. I'm thinking about putting a clear wax based shellac on it but I was wondering if anyone has done this before? Is there something better to use for this than shellac?

I've never used acrylic either, does it harden on the shell or what? I don't want to take away from the texture of it if possible because my son wants to take it to show and tell at school. I realize that's not 100% avoidable though.

I did a few shells for my girls. Used a clear polyurethane that I got from Home Depot. I brushed mine on but spray would work too. Then hung it up to dry.

I've never done a shell but I used a clear coat enamel spray on antler and skulls. It brought the color back out of the antler. Good luck and let's see the picks when it's done
