You would be surprised at the cost of living in those states... much of Colorado runs more expensive than Texas, and jobs often pay less than here to boot.
As an example, the wife and I entertained the idea about 3 years ago. We were looking at Denver, or any town in CO with daily flights to Denver so I could commute to work. (I’m a Flight attendant, so that wouldn’t cost anything to commute) we found that houses were 20-25% more expensive in all cities that met our above criteria, and my wife’s specialized neonatal intensive care nursing gig would pay about 20% less. It was just to big of a difference for us to justify.

We will just continue to dream about it and enjoy the one week a year we get up there.

You would be surprised at the politics here. The western half of the state is red. Colorado Springs is red. Basically you get south of Denver or west of vail and you are in a red state.

I understand from a friend of mine that real estate prices are off the chart on the high side. So many people moving there to "enjoy" the pot laws, they are buying up everything thus jacking up the prices. A modest $160,000 home here will bring $600,000 there if you can find one. Good luck Colorado offers a lot of things to "enjoy"

Here's my thinking because we are toying with the idea of moving to NM/CO as well.

I love Texas' political climate, I love everything from our guns to the death penalty; however, Dallas, Harris, Travis, Bexar and El Paso counties will have us tipped over the blue line in no time IMO. So, if I've gotta deal with libtards, I might as well do it in a better temperate zone and in the mountains.

And honestly as much support as this pseudo-mexican "Puto" O'Roarke is getting, I am a little worried. All it will take is one modern day socialist libtard to get into a high office and this state is on a pathway to doom.

Modest $160k in the Houston, Dallas or Austin area, including suburbs doesn’t get anything anymore. $160 will get you in the hood or a manufactured home.

I am seriously considering a move to Colorado Springs with my current company I work for. I have been looking at housing, and at first look it seems pretty high. When you look at the property tax it equals out or close to it. The average 300k house there has a property tax of around $1,200 - $1,600 for the year depending on the location. So, unless you are paying cash for a house it isn't as much as it looks like initially on the home price. Now, I am not sure about the other costs of living like groceries etc

She saw a homeless dude that had stolen a city truck fly by with police chasing him. Then saw it on the news that night. Her organization was having a conference there and they have scratched Denver off their list for future events. Love the mountains guess just stay out of the big city.
I love Denver so much that anytime now when traveling through Colorado is required, I drive however far is necessary to completely avoid it and the mess anywhere near it.

I was up there a couple weeks ago. Flew into Denver and then drove to Steamboat. I didn’t care for the manners of the folks up there. On the way out we drove back to Denver and went downtown. That place is nasty! Stayed about thirty minutes and got out. I was uncomfortable. Pretty country though.

I have some acres right on the Dolores river. Beautiful place. I love Colorado and go there 5 or 6 times a year. I also just bought some acres right outside of Kerrville. My plan is for me to live in Texas during the winter and move up to Colorado for the summer. As long as I claim i lived in Texas more than 180 days, i dont have to pay Taxes in Colorado. Thats another idea.

I wonder if you can not pay taxes in Texas if you can prove you live in Colorado more than 180 days. Texas taxes are way higher. There is a state tax, but it's not much

Colorado has state income taxes. Texas doesnt.

My wife and I bought land in NW Colorado near Utah. Been hunting that area since 05. We are not a fan of Colorado's politics either but in 10 years it will be same here, history proves it. Property taxes in TX are completely out of control and to me, the no state income tax is a wash due to higher taxes here on everything and cost of living here. My property taxes here are 5 times higher than on same square foot house, we had in Atlanta. We like Texas don't get me wrong, but you pay alot to be here. Pros and cons to everywhere, just have to decide what you can deal with.

You only pay in Texas on property even if you live in Colorado. But not state income. You live in TX and have a place in Colorado you pay property taxes on your place their( which are way cheaper than ours) but you do not pay their state income.

I have a friend that just moved to Santa Fe from Houston because she always liked Santa Fe. She sure misses Texas. If Colorado is your choice, look at Canon City. I really wanted to live there.
