Default Memphis BBQ

Looking for the go to place(s) for BBQ in Memphis. Where is a good place to go for the ďMemphisĒ style. I know itís different than our BBQ, just want to try all the different kinds across the country and Iíll be in Memphis in three weeks.
Any other suggestions on local dining would be
Appreciated as well. I refuse to eat at any chain restaurants when Iím on the road.

Rendezvous in downtown and the commissary in Germantown were my favorites when I worked there. I wasn't a fan of Corkys.

Another vote for Commissary. Best sausage I've ever had.

I know you said no chains, but Famous Dave’s is really good. Don’t know if they have one in Memphis, but if they do, it’s worth your time.

Central BBQ is good. Rendezvous was not good last time we were there, but it is the rendezvous, so you might as well go just to say you went. BB King’s on Beale was good also

I try to hit Gus's Chicken every time we go down to Memphis. Dyer's Burgers on Beale is pretty good stuff, too. There are a lot of good BBQ places, its hard to narrow it down.

Make some time to hang out on Beale for an evening or two. It's a cool place to hang out and have some beers. There's quite a bit to see, but it's almost always fairly relaxed. The new Bass pro in the Pyramid is worth a stop, if you have extra time.

Dyers is a definite stop, as well as the pyramid. Iíll do Gusís, but the other people with me canít handle spicy.

Razrbk89 knows what he is talking about. We were there for my son's wedding and all the groomsmen from his wedding have plenty of stories from "That Night on Beale Street". Get the baby backs at Central, but not the brisket. Tough as boot leather.

As others have said, you should go to Rendezvous for the adventure and to say you have been there. I recall that we had a hard time finding it in downtown.

I'll eat it. That's just not quality sides for bbq. Heck in Texas sides are bread, onions and jalapenos. Lol.

I’d rather have fries than bread and onions. They taste a lot better and it’s not close.

You know nothing about quality bbq. By themselves maybe....but not with brisket and ribs.....and beans. Pinto or borracho, not baked. Throw in some cheese and a Big Red and its other worldly.
