    Killing weeds/vegetation on a pond.

Buddy just got on a duck lease this year and his assigned pond is covered in some type of weed/vegetation. He said he thinks it’s salvina, but I don’t know for sure. What’s the fastest and easiest way of getting it gone?

First thing that comes to mind is copper sulfate. If you treat that much with chemical though, I would recommend some way to physically remove it because you don't want it breaking down and decomposing in the water.

      Please don't use copper sulfate.....
It is a heavy metal.. Once it's introduced, it never goes away...
It will get into your eco system,, Plants/fish etc....
Google "Shore Clear".. The company that sells it. Sells all organic products...
I used Shore clear and Corn Gluten Meal.. Here's mine after treatment...

How big was your pond and how much products were used.

          Pond was about 1/2 acre....
I used one bottle of shore clear. Each year....
And one or two 50lb bags of corn gluten meal...spread with a coffee can...
Your gonna look, like a rolled donut when your done..
It's not fast. It took about two weeks....
But, if you keep it up every year it gets easier...

Before you go removing it all, are you sure the ducks won’t like it?

I had a pond covered the last two years from vegetation, it was one of my best fishing holes, but now it’s consistently a wood duck roost. They love it!

Was that covered in vegetation or just really murky water? Probably going to look into that for my stock tank

Get money back that pond has been covered for a while.
                    Roundup Custom will kill it.

It was covered in some kinda nasty 3" deep brown/green slime....
Pluse, the cat-tails,and the weeds were so thick, you couldn't fish...
I'm sorry, I can't remember the name of the company...
But they were great, when I spoke to them on the phone...
They sent me all kinds of info on pond mangmt.
                      Aireation fountains...…etc
                      hope this helps....

Yeah, apparently it had been covered for a while. You can move it with your hands as it just floats.

I don't believe they even have a open water spot to land due to it being so thick, I don't think it's any type of vegetation they'd eat. I haven't personally looked at it. Just my buddy has.

Same active ingredient (glyphosate) as Shore Klear, but slightly more concentrated. As mentioned, see what is cheaper and better for the ecosystem. I don't think glyphosate is an organic product though.
