    Ontario black bear hunt

This past year my boss gave me a black bear hunt with Flint wilderness resort as my birthday/Christmas present.
So on August 13th a couple of buddies and I few out to Detroit and then drove up 12hrs to camp, which was on Klotz lake.
The lodging consisted of 11 nice log cabins with plenty of beds and all the amenities.
Klotz lake was chuck full of walleye and northern pike.
As part of the hunt package the use of the boats and gas was include.
So in the morning we loaded up and fished.
The fishing was amazing, we lived off our daily catch.Pancake batter fried pike was delicious.
On Monday the 15th bear season opened, so we made sure we had all are bow dialed in.
There was 10 hunters in camp and 5 were bow hunters.
We loaded up and headed to are stands. I choose to hunt out of a ground blind.
My bait barrel was at 33 yards.
So I got settled in and the hunt began.

Right around 8pm a nice black bear snuck right into my bait with out making a sound.
He had no idea I was there so he camped out at the bait and stayed for 20min cleaning all the bait up.
I was pumped to say the least.
For my first bear encounter on the ground it was a good one.
I had my HD Video cam rolling the whole time he was at the bait.
Once he walked off it was getting pretty dark by then. Once my heart rate slowed back down,I heard some leaves shuffling around behind my chair so I slowly turn my head an other bear was 8 yards looking at me. He was trying to figure out what I was.
Needless to say my heart was pounding so hard I couldn't hear.
Once he walked off I slowly snuck out of my blind and made my way to the road.
Once I was picked up two rifle hunters had some nice bear on the ground.
We stopped to pick the last hunter which was a bow hunter and he had stuck a nice bear at last light.
He made a great shot on a 310lb bear which we trailed for about 50 yards.
Once back to camp the other group had another to bear on the ground also.
First night and four good bear back in camp. Proved it was a great way to start of the hunt.
Biggest bear on night one the bow at 310lbs.
So the second night we headed out to the same stands.
For me it was a quite night, but the turned out to be a great night for one of my buddies.
He smoked a super nice 330lb bear at 12yrds from a ladder stand with his bowtech. He was very pumped.

Another one of my buddies topped that by shooting a 360 pounder that same night with a rifle.
Once back at camp there were four bear harvested on night two with 3 of them over 300 pounds.Click image for larger version

So that really put the pressure on GA and I who was Also was bowhunting.
So the third night it was only two hunter left.
I went back to the same stand. I got settled in around 3:30pm and hunt the hunt began.
Around 7:55pm a black bear popped his big head out to have a look around my bait.
I knew I was drawing back in him if he gave me chance.
Sure enough he stepped out and stood broadside right in front of my bait.
I hit Rec. on my camera and he turned his head away have his last sniff of the northern woods. I drew back and settled my 30 yard pin and let my Easton axis tipped with a 2 blade rage fly.
My nocturnal showed my arrow found it mark.

The bear bolted out of sight and I heard him crashing thru the woods. Then all was quite within seconds.
Saw I settled down and listened for the death moan. But never heard it So I became kinda worried. But u gave him plenty of time and snicker out of my blind to go find my arrow. Right where he stood was the start of a nice bloodtrail. I followed blood across a beaver dam and along the edge of a stream. After 25yrds I noticed were he stood and bled, but he was no were to be seen. After looking around and not finding any more blood I happened to look down into the stream and there he was completely under water.
I made my way back to the road and waited for my guide to pick me up.
He shortly showed and we made are water retrieval.A wet bear is very heavy to pack out across a beaver dam. Once back to camp and put my bear on the scale and we was just shy of 300lb. But he had a great coat and very nice head.

I was also pleased that my rage did its job.
Ga hunted to the last day and last light he took a shot at a bear and drew blood and we tracked him for a long ways. He called it after 1/4mile track. Must of been a flesh wound with no vitals hit.
All in all 9 hunters went home with nice trophy black bears.
5 out of the 9 bears where Over 300 pounds.
Flint wilderness resort is a first class operation operated by wonderful people.
I will be back for sure.
