Pretty close to it depending on what I put in for but thats usually the list. Trick is to wait until the month of the due date then apply so your not hit with interest on CC. If you don't draw they refund everything except the license and a few small fee's.

edit: just checked its actually a little over 3k just feels like 4k

Will apply for New Mexico in the next few days. Just buying points for Wyoming elk but I think with the point creep thereís not much point in it. May try Montana. We are using our points for Wyoming antelope this year. We are gonna stop off on our way back from Idaho archery elk and take 3-4 days for antelope. Gonna be a busy Sept. Cant wait

That is a heck of a plan. WY has been on my list for a while now I need to make that a priority next year. AZ is also something I'd like to start applying in but all these states and all these fee's even if you don't draw really start to add up.

I've pretty much given up on the states with point creep, burned my antelope points in Wyoming last year when my group fell out.

But only applied up in Alaska this year. We've got everything I'll ever want to try for anymore.

Nevada hasn't opened yet but I mostly ready....I live here so I have the system pretty figured out. I don't apply to other states.

I apply for every species allowed.

Apply in most of the western states except NM for deer, elk, and pronghorn. Other species I selectively apply for in certain states. Wait til the deadline to apply so I’m not paying interest on credit card cause no way I can dump 3-5k cash a year without a definite tag.

Been applying for 12 years in 5 states. Seems like it's getting harder to get the premium units in some of those states each year for deer and elk. Probably will settle for lesser tags at some point.

This is me, except make that 13. I would not have guessed in 2007 and started applying in WY I still wouldn't have a tag.

I am thinking about cashing in mid level Utah, AZ, and Colorado points but I am pretty determined in WY.

Let us know how this turns out. I had considered this but I hate the thought of giving a WY outfitter my money after they have have so royally screwed us NR hunters.

isn't Montana general draw high chances? I believe its around 84% for general tag then if you draw general you can apply to be drawn for a limited unit which is much much harder?

Yea I can understand that. I really did my HW and am going to a very reputable outfit. Success rates are high, but I am going more for the experience than the kill.

Should be awesome! What I meant was I'm not a fan of the no NR in wilderness law. WY wilderness is some of the best vacant land left anywhere.

I am a little jealous tbh. Please post pics.

OTC tags are fine, IF you know where to go and have paid your dues. Most people only hunt a OTC once and then jump from unit to unit, state to state. Grass is always greener on the other side. I have 10 elk points in Colorado and will die before I aquire enough for a limited unit tag in one of the desired units. I have 17 mule deer points and I'm still 3-4 away from possibly drawing a tag. I should have started earlier but started elk hunting at 40.

Ok letís be clear with this post. You front $4k and get most of it back. Thatís not the same as costing you 4K. Or just roll with it and scare everyone off. Either or? You used to have to front almost 7k just in Colorado just for moose sheep and goat.

You might as well buy points for everything. You will want to hunt them all after you go hunting up there. I started just buying elk points and then wanted to kick myself for not getting into deer and antelope points sooner. It will give you something to hunt in between drawing your "dream" tag

What are your thoughts on Nevada?

I bought points last year at the last minute. I just played around a little on GoHunt and it looks like drawing a tag there is going to be next to impossible for anything other than deer. At 40 years old I'm thinking $216 to apply for all species it is a bad investment considering the long term odds with only 1 point right now.

I think the trophy quality of Nevadaís deer and elk make it a must apply for me. And they give out more non resident sheep tags than any other state.

Deer is avg probably 5-6 year draw I would say for Archery. Might draw it year 2 the first time and not again for 10 years. But I bet it avg out somewhere around 5-6 years.

Elk is once in a lifetime but the bulls are giant.

Yeah I think I read about the NR sheep situation which is why I bought points there last year. Would probably be cheaper to pay for a Dall in Alaska or Desert in Mexico though...

Will burn my pronghorn points in WY this year with my son. Applied for elk general but did not get it. We will apply for CO elk but will likely go OTC. Will do OTC in Arizona for Cues and try to draw a javelina tag. Next year I will save up and try to draw a WY goat tag. I've missed the boat on Sheep unless I win the Super. If your young, start banking points. My gain on point creep for pronghorn in Wyoming is about 3-1 Nine years ago it took 9 points now it is 12 with the top unit only iffy at that level.

I don't like the Wilderness law in Wyoming either but you don't need a guide. Any WY resident can go with you. I do like their NR allocation. It is way more favorable than NM.

I like to hunt OTC not because I am successful but because I think I learn much more when the hunting is harder.

It’s definitely an investment.

I'm interested to learn more! Specifically if there are any units that are OTC/low points, have a good amount of wilderness, and ~20% success rates for first rifle. I haven't been able to find units like that, well, anywhere else. Idaho in the Frank Church seems closest outside of CO.

Non residents arenít allowed to hunt wilderness in Wyoming without a guide.
