Live home build on the ranch in San Saba

We plan to move up here in a year or two. Building now so we can take our time with the finish out and before inflation sets in (more).

The site is on top of a hill overlooking two ponds. The State park on the south side and a big valley to the north. I'll get pictures of the view this week if I can.

Here's a picture after we cleared the trees and brush. Had to knock down one HUGE mesquite tree that I couldn't wrap my arms around. Maybe 3' diameter base.

After forms were up and crushed refines put in we got rain for 4 straight days.

View of the park side is the first picture

    Concrete coming in!
This shot is from the orchard below

This shot is from past the pond

This shot is from the valley side

    And a couple concrete shots

I take it you are near Bend? We moved into our new house at Richland Springs about a year ago. We love it here. Congrats to you.

School me on you guys building foundations down there. Why no basements, like we do here in the West??? I can understand slabs down along the coast where it is wet all the time, but out west or up north in hard dry ground and hills with good drainage they should be fine.

We don't like to live like moles!

Simply put, no need for them here. Up north/West you are trying to get some protection from freezing for plumbing. Freeze line/depth here is not much of a concern. In the hill country, where this house is, excavation would be brutal/expensive.
