    Help Me Age This Hill Country Deer

    Im thinking this deer might be 5.5, what do yall think?

    I think your about right. The black and white makes him look pretty rough, but seems to be still pretty tight along the belly. Doesn't have the baggy brisket or saddle back. I'd bet this is his second year with good antlers and the rain helped this year.

      4.5 IMO. skin too tight around the jaw area and neck is a little thin for a 5.5 year old deer. The depth of his shoulders as his compared to his rear does make him look older though. Tough one.

          I passed on a rack like this this past weekend, but my buck was probably 2.5-3.5 yrs old. Do you think the taller, more narrow racks start off as spikes? Just curious.

                  Its our first year hunting this lease so we are just getting to know these deer. There are alot better bucks than him out there, i guess my concern is that he prob wont get any wider. Might gain some mass and height. Have to decide if we want him out of the herd. Not sure about the taller rack bucks starting off as spikes.
