Dunno. Don't care. I wish this one was shut down.

We can throw payday loan places in the shutdown pile too. Robbing from poor/ignorant people is wrong.

I am not in the business, but it does seem that big typicals are what many people are looking for from breeders and they seem to be hard for breeders to grow. Once a deer gets that much protein with great genetics, they start throwing up crazy kickers and extras.

Also it seems like these deer max out at earlier ages than normal free range deer. Can anyone in the industry confirm this? Do these type of giant pen deer live as long as a free range deer? Given similar circumstances.
They will live just as long or in most circumstances longer than free range, know of ppl that have 15-16 yr old deer in the pens, as far as growth, they are pushing for more antler at a younger age so you dont have to let them mature to 5-6 to be there biggest an have more money tied up in then when you can shoot them at 3.

Just bizarre looking. They don't look like antlers, it's just a blob of crap.

I am surprised to read that. I figured their lifespan would be pretty short. How do you force a deer to grow 200”+ Antlers as a yearling? It must not be a secret as there are tons of farms that grow them. It’s a big money game for sure. I wish I had a better understanding on how it is actually done.

Well that's one way to keep em in their high fence. Bet he can't jump very high. Wonder if he could even out run a coyote with that ****.

True. It’s watering down the sport in areas where it exists and beyond.

Simply by breeding with the fastest maturing deer with the biggest amount of bone.

Well good because I don't think anyone actually "hunts" them. Shop for one maybe.

To me it's not just that they are ugly and unnatural, it's that you're buying a man made pet. You put in zero work or "hunting" (to sum up). It's amazing how someone can brag when they buy a deer. I guess for those guys it's like a woman finding a great one of a kind skirt and buying it then bragging about it?

This summer I was on the way to the deer lease with my 12 year old son. We stopped to get fuel and an older gentleman began talking to us. Super nice guy. Turns out he was a deer breeder. He showed us a picture of his "3. Year old." I don't think it was 500, but it had one of those weird crazy big racks. Anyway we parted ways. As we were driving I asked my son what he thought of that deer. "Pretty cool." I asked if he would shoot it, he said "no it's a pet."

It's hard to see how there could be a market for this. Then again everyone has different ideas. It seems fairly basic the animals we hunt should be "wild".
Bucks produced in a controlled environment are not wild, my opinion. Then again everyone has different ideas. I'm in a Facebook group where there were people saying elk taken on private land (not high fenced) should not be recognized by B&C or P&Y. Or if you hunt with a guide, it's because you don't know how to hunt, you are not a real hunter. Deer breeding is a bridge too far for me. Not sure about high fences. To each his own I guess.

I've thought the same thing. I'm perplexed by the industry's regular clientele and the industry's staying power. The price makes me think the client pool must be small. I know firsthand that some percentage are corporate guests, so they aren't picking up the tab.
