Not going to write a lengthy review because it isn't worth the time. Worst movie in the Star Wars canon and that includes the prequels. I will never pay to see another entry in the series. It was absolute garbage. 1/10 stars.

The big departure I was glad to see was no more anti gravity ninja flipping in the fight scenes. Yoda spinning around and bouncing off of walls never worked for me.

I just saw it tonight. Luke lost me when he tossed the light saber over his shoulder. I'll watch it again at some point but my old fat ***** could have beat the jedi out of Luke.

Agree. Been a Star Wars fan (Not a super-fan) my entire life. I texted my wife during the movie: "Worst Star Wars movie...ever." Unfortunately for her, it was the first and only Star Wars she's ever seen in the theater.

I don't mind giving an explanation as to why I disliked it. I will admit that I actually liked the last 1/3 of the film, despite all of the nonsense that didn't make sense. The 1st 2/3 of the movie put me off so bad that I was really unwilling to acknowledge the good parts later in the film.

Keeping in mind that I'm no a fan of the whole "Star Wars Universe," here are the things I didn't like:

              1. Luke chunking the light-sabre over his shoulder (attempt by the director to add comedy.) I also felt like the added too many attempts at comedy.
              2. Leia apparently being explosion, concussion, and fireproof; as well as surviving and propelling herself through space with the Force (with absolutely no training). I felt like I was watching Guardians of the Galaxy.
              3. The numerous quips and mannerism (From modern times on Earth) added to the film. An example being Luke dusting off his shoulder like the kids do these days. Another example of Poe on the intercom with General Hux. Yes, it was funny at first, then it just lasted entirely too long.
              4. The entire Casino scene was just completely ridiculous to me; the whole thing. The entire part of the movie was just a write-in to introduce Benecio Del Toro's character and to throw that little kid in, at the end, that apparently is strong with the force.
              5. The fact that the Force Awakens played Snoke out to be this super-villain and then he just flat out dies in this one without putting up much of a fight. AND we didn't learn anything about him.
              6. The fact that Snoke told them that, because of his awesome control of the Force, it was he who was connecting Kylo and Rey in order to draw Rey to them. But then after Snoke is dead, Kylo and Rey do it again like they're Face-timing; like it's no big feat.
              7. We also see Phasma (die?), only seeing her eyeball. I'm holding out hope that she may come back in the next one and we get to find out more about her.
              8. I don't mind the introduction of new Jedi force manipulations, but I just found these specific ones to be a little weird and "out of left field," kind of like the introduction of midi-chlorians in the prequels.

I have never seen a Star wars movie from start to finish. Ive seen bits and pieces of a few of them but have never set down to intentionally watch one.

I'll touch on this one because people are furious about not knowing who Snoke is. This movie showed Kylo's ascent to the top of the first order and to the dark side. This movie was not about Snoke. Let's rewind 37 years to the Empire Strikes Back when Vader spoke with the Emperor through a hologram, Vader, who's supposed to be the baddest mofo in the galaxy, bows down and refers to this guy as "master?" ***? Then in Return of the Jedi, we finally get to see the Emperor, he sits in a chair, manipulated the rebellion to run into a trap, shocks the hell out of Luke with Sith Lightning and is ultimately thrown down an elevator shaft by Vader, with no back story. We were only showed what we needed to know for that movie to move along. We weren't promised 3 more movies in 1983 after Jedi that would tell Vader and the Emperor's backstory.

People think they have to know everything about a certain character. Snoke was bad, Kylo couldn't defeat him alone. Ultimately he used Rey to help him kill Snoke. On the dark side there is always a master with the power and an apprentice who wants the master's power.

Of the gripes I had about this movie, Snoke wasn't one of them.

I think 9 will start off several years after the events of TLJ and Kylo will be a formidable opponent for Rey.

I can buy that. Great explanation; never thought of it like that. Perhaps I have this mindset due to the relentless hours on YouTube, going through fan theories about who he was...lol

Movie was ok, the high point being the fight of Rey, Kylo and Snokes' Cardinals. It projected, desperate situations call for desperate measures and thats always an underlying plot in a SW movie

Still, I think comparing 1981 to 2017 isn't the best way to critique the saga. It's different times and there are different expectations these days. Snoke was a letdown.

I refuse to pay a dime to watch any of these Star Wars "reboot" movies. I am a long time SW fan and after the first 3 movies came out and so many years went by with no sign on the other 6, I filled the void with the SW Expanded Universe books. These many authors, under the direction and rules set by Lucas, provided an glimpse into the lives of the characters that helped define my youth. Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie...they all grew up, had lives, families, triumphs, tragedies, and provided many hours of much needed SW "fix" when there was no more movies. When Lucas sold the franchise to Disney, it was announced that the EU and all of its "canon" stories would now be reclassified as Star Wars Legends and ALL was non-canon now. Only the 6 movies would be canon and all new movies and books would be the NEW, rewritten history of the SW Universe. To me, that was the biggest slap in the face that ANY franchise could ever do. Disney basically said, here is all the rich, amazing content and history that MANY talented authors created to provide countless hours of entertainment to the SW starved fans, and we are going to say none of it is real, we aren't going to use any of it, and we are going to "REBOOT" the franchise. I AM SO SICK OF REBOOTS!!!!! The SW universe had enough stories to last SEVERAL lifetimes. While I understand that the 3 main characters were so old, Disney was limited in the way they could involve them, they could have told the stories and introduced new life to the franchise by bringing in new, young actors and having them fill the roles of the established timeline and characters. Don't change the established universe and stories, honor the authors, honor the fans that supported the SW franchise and make movies that original fans want to see. Bring the books to life.

I know this isn't the opinion of many of the long time SW fans, but it is mine. While I was not happy that Lucas sold out, he had every right to do what he wanted with his property, I do feel that Disney, instead of honoring the fans and authors, took a huge dump on all of us by telling us that all the books you have come to love over the years are basically worthless and we know best so we are going to change the story. So, no "NEW" SW for me and Disney won't get one red cent from me for this garbage they are making now.
