I'm sure when I check the cameras I will see bucks free of velvet as this is the time of year they shed at my place. Our rut will start around the 3rd or 4th week of September.

Thats fascinating. Here just a little ways across the Sabine the deer don't shed till end of August first of Sept. Rut is early Oct- mid Nov. where just 20 miles south in Avoylles rut is Christmas early Jan

That is about as early as I have ever heard of whitetails rutting

Yes it is early but not for down here. I always see bucks chasing does in the 3rd or 4th week of September. Most fawns don't even have spots on them anymore. The funny thing is just 15 miles NW from my lease at my house they don't start rutting until late October.
