Started my entrance gate to the ranch...

Found someone selling like new railroad ties. Notched and hung them with 1/4” thick angle iron. Thinking about using pipe to fill in the gaps so the calves can’t crawl out. What do y’all think so far? (Despite the optical illusion, they are completely level)

did you use a chain saw to notch them? How many chains did you burn up?
I went in to buy a few ties at Atwood’s in Corsicana back in the fall and they had them on clearance, the Mgr was loading me up and told me he would knock the clearance price in half so I bought all I could haul on my trailer. I like your idea but notching then can be a pain.

                    They will wreck a chainsaw....

use a cheap circular saw and knock out the blocks with a hammer to get them done

I used a circular saw to notch but I did use a chainsaw to trim them. I didn’t have any issues cutting them at all. Chainsaw went right through them like butter.
