Same as companies that say they will cover your deductible.

I know both of these happen all the time, just don't get caught unless you like to deal with insurance fraud.

Maybe someone else with much more knowledge than me will chime in.
Seems to be loopholes in this area. One example I've heard of, roofer pays you a "marketing fee" for allowing him to place his sign in your yard.

If it costs $X to tear off, haul off, put new felt, and replace with these shingles, it should be the same if you are being paid by the insurance or the homeowner. I think that's what op is getting at.

          Laziness.

Imagine a business where the customer tells you what they want so you can sell more of your product and service, and you are too stupid to listen and do it to make more money.

Most roofers aren’t roofers at all, they’re salesmen.

          And terrible businessmen.

Because we are in the business of making money just like everyone else. My roofing insurance bids are always exactly what the insurance company agrees to pay. If you have the idea of “making money” on your insurance claim then that my friend is the only “scam” I see here. Also it is impossible to do because insurance companies apply recoverable deprecation to insurance roof claims.

Just go searching around in the internet —- you’ll find out that a majority of these roofing businesses are not businesses at all, but rather just a big scheme.

They have big conventions where they share secrets on how to screw insurance companies, drive up their profits and your premiums, unlawfully act as a public adjuster, and generally act as scumbags.

                It’s a huge racket.

Just for fun, we like to look on Craigslist and find a hiring ad and call to see who can make up the most outlandish story and still get hired as a roofing salesman.

Lots of them will hire any felon or drug addict to come to your house and sell you a roof.

Sooo, if a guy just wanted to pay for a new roof it's cheaper than using insurance?

You got it - different price for cash.

                    That’s no problem right?

I mean, they are “insurance specialists” and all, and you gotta pay for that

Our cash price does not change from insurance price. Like I said, don't lump all roofing companies together.

I had a roofer quote my roof after Ike. No damage from Ike, it was just time. Guy started at 14k and told me to tell my insurance. I informed him I'd be paying out of pocket. 8k was then his price.

I didn't share with anyone the amount my insurance gave me after Harvey when I got my roof done. None of their business

This^^^. Insurance pays for you to replace damaged property and you are responsible for your deductible. Just my understanding.

They don’t want to under bid themselves. My homes outside of New Berlin, Tx and Rockport , Tx. We’re stormed damaged and the roofers quoted below what the insurance paid roofers don’t want to leave a lot of money in the table in my experience. Have them bid it as a job and not insurance quote. Both times roofers ask to see my insurance quote but refuse to show if their above you insurance settlement file it with insurance of course your deductible has a lot to do with it.

It’s a scam. And it hits a nerve with me. My subdivision got hit with a big hailstorm, gypsy roofers moved in like locusts. I called my roofer that has been in business for over 20 years and asked for a quote. He gave it to me without ever seeing the insurance paperwork. Then out of curiosity, I had one of the other roofers give me a quote. Except the second guy would not give a quote without seeing my insurance paperwork. Insisted on seeing the insurance paperwork. I showed it to him, then he started his spiel about saving me my deductible and saving me money and so on. I didn’t let him do the work, I chose my first guy and saved the insurance company the “depreciated value” of the claim they didn’t have to pay. It’s insurance fraud, plain and simple
