Best starter Gun for 6yr old?

22 & 223 is what we just started our 6 year old shooting.

223 or 243 would be perfect.

.223 for deer and hogs with Fed fusions. We used .222's because we had two of them. My kid progressed as follows: BB, .22, 22 mag, .222, .243, .270. All scopes. Consequently my kids became adept at scopes early.

For shotguns, I would start with a 20 and very light loads when they were ready. And With a youth model that fits.

6.5 grendel in a howa mini or CZ 527 action. Very low recoil, small/light package, and will kill deer and hogs just fine.

Hmm what about in AR platform with adjustable stock...

Their 11yo sister has a youth savage .243. It's too big and heavy to freehand for them so far, but will be good in a few years. I may just let them start with my old single shot 410 and 20ga and consider a rifle soon...

Based on previous threads here I started my son on a Browning Micro-Midas in .22-250. Great combo. For shotgun I went with a cheap Mossberg Maverick pump in 20. First season I let him only load one shell. Worked out great.

I started to go this route with my son, but the AR was considerably heavier than bolt actions and not as comfortable to shoulder and shoot
