Fall 2018 Kendra and I were sending all 3 kids off to college. Blake and Cory were starting their journeys at A&M and Oklahoma State, while Haley was off to Texas State to finish off her senior year.
With a new boat in the shop in Shiner we planned big things as empty nesters as we planned to embrace our new empty nester status. Fall was full of hunting in Shiner and my trip back to Alberta. Welcoming the kids home for the holidays and sending them back off again, we looked forward to our second semester of empty nesting and planned to chase some turkeys and hit the bay on our weekends.
Mother Fluor decided differently as I have was sent to back to Canada in the early spring. I am now again based in Calgary , Alberta where I will be into some point in 2020, then relocating to northern BC for a few years.
Re-establishing residency, I am now two days away from the archery opener.
Bear, elk , mule deer and whitetail tags in hand we are ready to go.
Kevin has drawn a mule deer buck tag in the WMU we elk hunt (it was open area when I lived here in 2009-2013), and we have been scouting on weekends trying to find a good buck. Ryan and I will be looking for our own mule deer closer to Calgary in the open zones. We won’t have the same true trophy opportunities Kevin will have (lots of bucks over 170 as he is picky and prepared to eat tag soup unless he can find a unique buck or something over 180, we will still have fun.
Making last rounds this evening knocking on doors and handing out some adult beverages (no leases as guy either hunt crown land or seek permission on private property.
Pics from scouting this far.
