    Electrical advice for my shop

They are about to start my pole barn building my 30 x 60 shop in San Marcos. I am getting ready to buy some lights, power outlets, etc. It is on a wooded 5 acres but in a subdivision but the question I have been asked is do I want to wire the shop in conduit. I have had some advice since we are in a wooded area that they would recommend putting the wiring in conduit so the varmints do chew on the wiring. Is this going to be a problem? I'm mixed and know that it will probably cost me quite a bit more to run it that way versus just running power in the rafters. What do you guys recommend? What did you do.

          Shouldn’t cost much more.

The shops that I have wired, I normally do a mixture of EMT and MC cable. To me it looks alot cleaner, and the wire is not exposed.

I did my 40x60 in conduit 20years ago and glad I did. All my plug boxes are 4 way every 20 feet, 10feet in my work area.

If you’re gonna do that just use MC cable.

I will run conduit in mine. But I’ve been an electrician for 28 years.

Conduit looks so much cleaner than just running wire, but is significantly more expensive with all the bends. It also looks much better than the flex coil.

If I was doing mine over again I would run 2 inch plastic conduit in the slab from the power location to in between each of the main support beams. Eliminates the need to go over head, makes shortest run and would be very clean. Thought of this while bending emt :-)
