Last week thru the weekend finds me along the Texas coast...doing what I love to do....surf! Had business to tend to down RGV way...so I zipped over to Port Isabel, hauling my 9'6" longboard along, to surf! The last time I enjoyed a surf session at Port Isabel dates back to 1974 LOL! Much has changed...surfed 4 hours...till my arms felt like falling off. LOL!
Knocked out the work I needed to do Friday and zipped up the coast to Corpus Christi to Drifter's house Friday night. We got up early AM Saturday & Sunday and hit the surf at the North Jetty, Packery Channel.
I finally broke down and grabbed the camera Sunday between sessions (resting up).
I'm thinking seriously about covering some South Texas surf scenes for some of the locals. Nothing big time but who knows......I may end up diving in with both flippers!
Didn't use a tripod here...just kind of shot this stuff standing there without any plan....letting the surfers do their thing. The 300mm prime works well enough with Texas surf to cover the scene from the beach...unless we get those huge days...then all bets are off...I'll be too busy offshore surfing myself to worry about photography LOL!
Driving the line after drop-in
Setting up a backside lefthander
The turn
Backside bottom turn
Setting up a back-side lip smack
Making the turn to smack
The Smack
Just enough summer swell to support a few shortboarders...working the inside.
Running the line and setting up the nose for a front-side lip smack (note how high he has his boards nose)
Off the lip front-side
Re-entry
Can't leave out...The Scenes
Texas girl making the paddle out
Lil Bitties with Momma. Cuties!
The Ice Cream Man LOL!
Inside scene
A Buck Medley in the making
