I remember him writing a column once with an estimate of how many tons of corn get spun out every year in Texas and it was some astronomical figure. He joked about wanting the corn concession and just having it not to get rich, but just to get a set of keys for all the best gates in Texas.

              RIP

I don’t guess many big city papers even have an outdoor writer anymore - there was a time when they all did. The Metroplex had several great ones - Bob Hood of the Ft Worth Star Telegram and Ray Sasser were both top notch. When I was a kid I thought that would be my dream job - I love the outdoors and I love to write.

My Dad and Ray used to offshore fish together offshore out of Port Arthur. He wrote a few articles about my Dad. They also used to hunt in Colorado together...back when they camped out and put deer on the hoods of cars without worry.

I am going to find some of those articles from the 70s and post them up. My dad still talks about their trips today.
