I shot Marco vanes about 30+ yrs ago.

If I remember correctly we ran a Q Tip dipped in acetone along the quill side to remove the releasing agent so that they would stick.

Is this still necessary?

We used alchohol but it doesn't apply when using Blazers.

Yes.

That, or a very high alcohol percentage (90% or better) of denatured rubbing alcohol.
