Hopefully some of the pixel pros will help us out!

I'm looking to possibly get an intro dSLR Nikon D40 with the 55-200mm AF Zoom kit lens.
1. How much quality difference will I notice from my Sony cybershot P&S?
2. How much optical zoom will I have with this lens, how far out can I take pics of wildlife with it?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The 200 I think gives you 11.1X if I read right. I am by know means an expert...I have just been doing alot of reading. Might want to look at the 18-200 f3.5 VR for a single lens. It has gotten some good reviews and will be a more versatile lens. I got the 18-55 and 55-200 with my camera....wish it would hurry up and get here.

The 18-200 is nice but also $700 for it! I guess the idea of having to swap lenses between the two once you figure out which one to use when is going to be a pain, but i can't part with that kind of money right now. then hav to look at getting the f2.8 and tack on an add'l $1k on top of it all and THATS when you are fancy!
