Cord on solar panel was hot

I picked up my gam cam last weekend and noticed the connections between on the external battery that go to solar panel was a little hot.
It was all hooked up correctly, so what could have caused this. The panel is a typical panel everyone uses, however the connections I installed. Any ideas on why it would be hot. My thought is the connections I installed are CHEAP, bought from harbor freight.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

How hot? Plastic melting hot or just warm? When wires heat up like that it usually means there is a lot of amperage running through them. I don't think a solar panel will create enough amperage to really heat up a wire like that. What gauge wire are you running?

I'll get a picture together and post it, it is a typical charger from Academy. It did not melt anything, just the bare metal was hot to the touch, also it wasn't totally in the sun. The wire thickness is unknown it came with the panel.
